This is a kind of benzodiazepine tranquilizer. It is ingested through the mouth. It takes an hour to take action and lasts between six and twelve hours. It’s also used to prevent and treat epilepsy, panic disorder, and akathisia, a type of motion condition. Clonazepam was invented in the United States in 1960, and Roche began marketing it in 1975. It is available as a generic medication. In 2017, this was the 34th most often prescribed medication in the United States, with over 20 million prescriptions. In many areas of the world, this is commonly used as a recreational medication.
Clonazepam is not recommended for long-term seizure treatment because, like other benzodiazepines, it develops anticonvulsant effects tolerance after being used to treat acute seizures. Treatment options include traditional and atypical abstinences, as well as child myoclonic, myoclonic, and akinetic seizures. Long-term usage of clonazepam may assist an epilepsy-resistant subpopulation; however, due to its slower development of tolerance, the benzodiazepine clorazepate can be used as a substitute. Clonazepam was successfully used to treat epilepsy in children, and seizure activity was reduced at low plasma clonazepam concentrations.
